About Me

I have always loved being behind the camera, whether it be on holidays, at a party or when visiting family and friends. I am not professionally trained and took on photography as a hobby but my interest and experience has grown over time. I was fortunate last year to undertake a workshop with Nigel Gaunt of Red Dirt Photography which was quite inspirational.

My relaxed attitude toward my photography means that I like to build up a relationship with my subjects to be able to take candid portrait photos. I am also eager to hear any ideas that you may have and will attempt to incorporate these ideas where possible.

Although I am very passionate about my photography, I do have a day job however I manage to fit a fair amount of photography in around it. I am currently based in Perth but do spend periods of time in Karratha and south-east Victoria. If you are located outside of Perth and are interested in my services please don't hesitate to contact me for further information.

Please contact me if you have any further questions.

Thanks to Linley for taking the photo of me on the right.

FAQs

Before the session

Can anyone be photographed?

Most certainly! Please keep in mind the limitations of the subjects though, particularly babies on very cold or very hot days and people with limited mobility or current injuries. It would be appreciated if you could let me know of any of these limitations at the time of enquiry so they can be taken into account in the planning of your portrait session.

Can we bring our family pet?

Of course, they are a member of your family too! It would be appreciated if you could tell me about any pets at the time of enquiry so that I can take this into account in my planning. Please also let me know if there are any limitations on your photos due to your pet (eg. only able to have photos at home, need to avoid busy areas etc). There is no extra charge to include pets in your photos.

Do you offer suggestions for locations?

I’m more than happy for you to suggest locations close to you, but am equally happy to suggest locations if I know the area. If I don’t know the area I will attempt to familiarise myself before your portrait session where possible.

When do I have to pay and how do I pay?

Payment is required prior to the commencement of your portrait session. Payment can be by electronic funds transfer at least one week prior to your session or by cash on the day.

What if we decide that we want some of the optional extras?

Optional extras can be added up until the time of your portrait session and the optional extras that relate to photo editing can also be added after your session.

Is the work that you are showing me all yours and is it recent?

All photos on this website are taken by me with the exception of the photos of me which were taken by and acknowledged as work of my friend Linley. All photos have been taken since November 2008, and the portrait photos have all been taken since May 2009.

Are you the only photographer?

At this stage all photography is undertaken by me. In the future there may be the option of a second photographer for weddings etc.

Do you use film or digital cameras or a combination of both and do you have backup equipment if something breaks?

I use a Canon digital SLR camera and am currently in the process of sourcing another camera. I always carry a fully charged spare battery with me which lasts for approximately 5 portrait sessions.

When are you available for portrait sessions?

I am available most weekends and some weekdays, however, I will discuss these options with you following your enquiry. I do have a day job but am flexible outside of those commitments.

What if we need to reschedule?

Unfortunately unforseen circumstances do arise and this is understandable. If you need to re-schedule then as much notice as possible is appreciated. Costs may be passed on if travel etc is undertaken before the session is cancelled.

Do you ever need to reschedule a session?

I haven’t had to reschedule yet and it would take extreme circumstances for this to happen. I always plan to be at your session early but if for some reason I am held up or unable to find our meeting place I will be in contact via phone at the earliest possibility.

On the day

What should I wear?

Please see the link at the bottom of this page for a document that contains specific information for your portrait sitting.

Can I wear different outfits for different photos?

Most certainly! However, do consider if it’s going to be possible to change at an outdoor location. Please see the document at bottom of this page for further information.

How long will my portrait sitting take?

Your portrait sitting will take 1-2 hours, but it is best to keep 3 hours free to allow for set-up and pack-up, or travel to various locations. I attempt to keep sittings involving children as close to one hour as possible (less if I have the photos I need). I am also very understanding of babies needing feeds, children needing snacks and everyone needing bathroom breaks, otherwise they won’t be very happy photos!

What do you do if I'm having trouble relaxing on the day?

Many people are nervous about having their photo taken. Before we start I will have a chat with you about what you’re hoping to achieve. I will also ask if you have any particular concerns about having your photo taken.

After the session

How many photos will I get?

I aim to supply you with a minimum of 40 photos. The final number will depend on the subject and the conditions (eg. children getting restless or rain). If the number of photos is less than 30 then a discount will be applied.

Will my photos be edited?

Although some photos are fine to be used straight away, many of your photos will be edited slightly to improve the final outcome. Sometimes the colour of the photo may need to be edited due to lighting conditions at the time. I will speak with you during your sitting as to what editing you do and don’t want done.

Will my photos be colour, sepia or black and white?

You will receive copies of all your photos in colour and black and white. If you would like sepia photos or other variations please let me know and I can do this for a small charge.

When will my photos be ready?

There will be approximately 10 photos available in your private gallery within 48 hours of your portrait sitting unless I don’t have access to the Internet. The rest of your photos will be available within two weeks of your sitting.

Do I have to pay extra to access my photos?

No, the sitting price includes a disc with copies of your edited photos. I don’t believe in charging you to take photos and then again for digital copies of your photos. You are then able to have photos printed from these digital copies and distribute them electronically. Please note that copyright remains with the photographer and acknowledgement of the photographer is appreciated if photos are posted in a public forum or distributed electronically. If you would like me to have photos printed on your behalf please contact me for prices and applicable discounts for large orders.

Will my photos appear on your website?

Once your photos are edited they will be uploaded to a password protected online private gallery for you to view, these photos can only be viewed by yourself and family or friends that you give the password to.

Once your photos have been uploaded I will ask if you give permission for 5-10 of your photos to be used in the public galleries of my website to show prospective clients my work. Your permission to use these photos is greatly appreciated, however you are more than welcome to decline permission to use your photos.
